From a Simple Thought to a Shared Journey: The Story of Sahayatra 50

Every big movement starts with a small, quiet question. For us, that question was: “Why is it so hard for a hardworking person to start something of their own?”

In the tea shops of Kathmandu, the fields of Terai, and the small workshops in our hills, we saw the same story over and over again. We saw tailors who could sew masterpieces but didn’t own their machines. We saw mechanics who could fix any engine but didn’t own their tools. We saw farmers with the best soil but no money for seeds.

These aren’t people looking for a “handout” or charity. They are people with Sip (skill) and Josh (energy). They just lack the one thing the modern world demands: Capital.

The Problem with “Strings”

When we first sat down to design this project, the initial thought was simple: Let’s just give the money. No strings attached.

But then we realized—charity often carries a hidden weight. It can make a proud worker feel like a “case” to be helped, rather than a “pro” to be respected. On the other side, bank loans are a nightmare of paperwork and high interest that suffocates a new business before it can even breathe.

We wanted a middle path. A path where the dignity of the worker is preserved and the success of the business is guaranteed.

The Birth of Sahayatra 50

We chose the name Sahayatra (Journeying Together) because that is exactly what this is. We decided that 50,000 NPR was the magic number—the “Seed” that could sprout a lifetime of independence.

We decided to move away from “giving” and toward “investing.” * The Idea: We provide the equipment.

  • The Partnership: We become small partners in the profit.
  • The Exit: Once the business is strong, the partner “buys us out” and becomes the 100% owner of their dream.

More Than Just Money

Sahayatra 50 isn’t just about 50,000 Rupees. It’s about the handshake. It’s about the “Handshake and the Sprout” in our logo. It’s about saying to a skilled person: “I believe in your talent enough to put my own money behind it.”

We are starting small, but our vision is as high as the Himalayas. We aren’t looking for employees; we are looking for partners.

If you have the hands that can create, the mind that can fix, or the land that can grow—but your pockets are empty—know that your journey doesn’t have to stop here.
